Kudos to Cooley Distillery for shaking up the Irish whiskey industry.

After my folks brought home a custom-labeled bottle of Bushmills, I've started sampling some Irish whisky (I still need to post the Bushmills 10 notes and work up the courage to open the 12).

This is supposedly the only all-corn Irish whiskey on the market.

This is one of the bottles I bought for the scotch tasting/class I hosted at Sapphire Joust (and again as a Father's Day present). It is special in that it is from the same distillation as another bottle in my cabinet (22 Feb 1994), but a different cask. This was a completely irresponsible impulse buy, but when I saw it on the shelf I couldn't resist. Ardbeg's 10-year is one of my favorite whiskys, and their Airigh Nam Beist is supposedly getting scarce so I thought I'd grab it while I could.

In Gaelic, airigh nam beist means "sheltered pasture of the animals" and is the name of one of the two ( Read more... )
